For the second straight year Spencerport's Justin Linville is a
Section V wrestling champ. The senior and Ranger tri-captain grappled
his way to the top of 171 pound division.
“If you want to be a leader on any team, you just can't be a leader
on the mat you have to be off the mat when you are with these guys
everywhere,” Justin explained. “It’s big expectations but I like
it.”
And Justin’s coach likes his work ethic.
“When he comes into practice he has an agenda,” said Bill Jacoutot.
“He goes hard, he gives 100 percent. He's reliable outside of school,
he's a good student. He is one those kids in the program that you
don't worry about.”
Jacoutot, like most wrestling coaches, demands discipline. Justin
got his at home from his father Larry, a sergeant major in the New
York Army National guard.
“In a way he has been in the military, he's been part of the military
for 18 years,” Larry said.
And his mom Renee is a chief warrant officer, who served 13 months
in Iraq supporting the 42nd infantry. Justin dedicated his junior
season to his mom's absence and his senior year to her return.
“Last year I kept telling Larry the biggest thing I wanted was to
see Justin come out in his Spencerport whites. I didn't get to see
that,” Renee said. “This year when he did finally come out, he was
the first one to run out. My face just lit up, I was just so proud
of him.”
