(January 16, 2005) — Dan Tomasso decisioned Josh Mateo 11-3 to
capture the 140-pound weight class as Spencerport topped 18 other
schools to win the 25th annual Clayton-Barnard Wrestling Tournament
at Hilton on Saturday.
Mateo was the 2004 runner-up in the state
qualifiers for small schools.
In their first meeting of 2005 Al
Gianforti decisioned Bryan Bourne 3-2 in overtime at 145 pounds
for Canandaigua, which placed third. Gianforti and Bourne were both
sectional champions in 2004.
Spencerport placed six of its 15 wrestlers
into the finals and four of its wrestlers won their weight class.
Mark Ranzenbach received the aggregate pin award for the most pins
over the tournament in the least amount of time with three pins
for Hilton. Ranzenbach also received the outstanding wrestler of
the tournament award after going 4-0 for the day.
