Spencerport, N.Y. -- After 40 years, the state wrestling tournament returns to Rochester this weekend. Over 500 athletes from all over New York will participate in the two-day event, including 54 wrestlers from Section Five.
Spencerport senior Bryan Bourne is one of five Rangers that will take the mat on Saturday. Last year, Bourne reached the finals of the 160-pound weight class. "I think there is pressure," said Bryan, who comes from a family of wrestlers.
Bryan's brother, Mike was a sectional champion at Spencerport. His dad, Chris Bourne, wrestled at East Rochester and is now the Section 5 wrestling coordinator. "Bryan is always one that has gotten up for the big occasion," said Chris. "With it being his senior year and being in his hometown, I think it's going to give him some extra motivation."
A five-time Section Five champion, Bryan believes he's ready to finally capture the one title that has eluded him. "In my mind I've worked as hard as I can this year to prepare for this moment." A moment the entire Bourne family would cherish.
